TIMCO CB-13 Receive Converter

Small down-converter which enables reception of AM CB on AM Medium Wave receiver i.e. car radio. Dimensions 4.25" x 1.75" x 2.625" deep.

An extension speaker by Diesel Electronics of Williamsburg, Ohio 45176.

Featuring the entire set of '10' codes printed on the front grille, it would have been a pretty cool addition to any late '70's CB'ers station.

It has a switchable audio filter (top-cut) which is mis-spelt 'FLITER' on this example.

Twenty Codes...

• As CB was illegal, codes were used for locations, to avoid giving away one's position. As the ten-code for 'location' is 10-20, location codes were referred to as 'Twenty' codes.

 

 

Towns/Cities each had names by which they were identified for miles around. Within them local areas, suburbs, streets, and even specific shops, pubs, clubs etc had code-names used by, and known by, locals. These were often quite 'lateral' and witty.

The table of town names below was compiled initially from several of the code sheets used in the South of England. There may have been regional variations. If you remember the 'Twenty's of towns in your part of the country please e-mail me some.

• As well as using codes for locations, to avoid giving away ones position (well, the law was being broken after all!), codes were also used for car types. 'Wrapper' was the generic term for 'car'.
